Psychotherapy can be basically divided into three dimensions

Exploration: This process is all about helping the clients to tell their stories. This includes the basic skills of being attentive and listening. Creating an environment which is comfortable and therapeutic for a client .This process also includes building an alliance of confidentiality and trust with the client. Explorations also consists of asking open ended questions, reflecting on the client’s feelings as well as showing immense amount of empathy and genuineness for the client.

Insight: This process basically involves guiding the client to understand his situation. A lot of basic skills of probing, challenging ,self -disclosure, immediacy advanced empathy can be really helpful in this process of psychotherapy where one makes the client understand the scenario from various angle and there is a slow shift from the presenting issue to the actual issue in the phase of psychotherapy.

Action: This is the third phase in the process of psychotherapy which basically aids in changing the attitudes and behaviours of the clients with the help of various skills, strategies and therapies. Goal setting and motivation are also prevalent in this phase and instilling hope is a practice very important at this point.

Psychotherapy is a process which helps a person to sort out his issues and take decisions or atleast move a step further to their goal. The perspective of psychotherapy may change from person to person but the basic skills and therapies remain the same. Psychotherapy aims to help clients help themselves by making better choices. The repertoire of skills include those of forming an understanding relationship as well as making interventions to help counselees change specific aspects of their feeling, thinking and acting.

Psychotherapy can also be defined as a systematic progression which gives individuals an opportunity to explore, discover and clarify ways of living more resourcefully with a great sense of wellbeing

  • Increasing self-esteem and self-confidence: Psychotherapy helps an individual understand his self-worth and hence in various ways is beneficial in increasing the self -esteem and self -confidence of a client by highlighting his capabilities and achievements.
  • Combination with Medicine: Psychotherapy in addition to medicines can help clients improve their wellbeing in case of many neurological and learning disorders. It works on the emotional well -being and can keep the confidence and attitude of the client high while coping with these disorder.
